TOHJI  (TOH=EAST JI= TEMPLE)  [ Aug 26 2009 by AO ]

Ryotaro Shiba once told that Tohji is sacred premises full of history.
In spacious pricincts, so many treasures are cramfull which have been born during over 1,000 years' history.

Among them, the highlight is an auditorium in which the national treasures are also gathered closely.

Entering through the door of the gate from east side, my eyes suddenly caught a figure of golden Dainichi Buddha standing at the center of auditorium.  Slight beam of light coming into through the front grille is focused on the spot in the back of Dainichi Buddha which brighten the idol there. As my eyes get adjusted to the darkness, 21 bodies of Buddha come to appear clearly.  Their appearance is extremely beautiful.

Those Buddha statues which have been received innumerable prays during so many years have some auras around them.

All what I can do is only to deeply respect the technique of engravers, and furthermore the greatness of Kukai who had planned such auditorium.
