The skin of Buddhist images(statues) photographed by Ken Domon (a famous Japanese photographer) are rough.
They have no such smooth faces as polished up.
On the picnic of images of Mirokubosatsuhankashiizo at Kouryu Temple which Ken Domon himself expressed to be one of the most excellent piece of his work, only chisel mark left on wood carving clearly appears.
The hands of a carver is perceived, and is it true that he found a beauty on rough skin which had been generated during the course of time?
I think that something in which a life is infused and which has such atmosphere as can be said " Aura " would be what Ken Domon pursued.
