JYODO-JI Temple JYODODOU (JYODO HALL)  [ Oct 6 by AO ]

JYODODOU at JYODO temple is an architecture of extremely simple style covered by, so called, a big hipped roof put on the 9 square plane.
The most remarkable characteristic is its structure in which the beams are supported by kumimono (brackets and other parts) of several layers.
And these are painted vermilion which are emphasized by an appearance at inner space without ceiling.
The scene of kumimono which is arching out looks very active. I can easily recognize, from inside and also from outside, the gap in which the dynamic structure stands up on the static plane surface.
In the afternoon, the evening sunlight comes into the hall through lattice window on the west side which colors hall red and dyes structures vermilion more brightly.
Amida Buddha covered by gold foils shines gold and I can instantly image the scene that many people have been praying in this space from ancient times.
This is the very rare case that enables us to know the accomplished relationship between the Buddha statue and the space. Without doubt, it deserves the national treasure.
